For my first furniture design studio, I was given the opportunity to design anything I wanted. I decided to craft two side tables that would store my records, books and sewing machine. Through prototyping a small model, then a full-scale cardboard model, I came up with the final design. The top table piece comes off to become a lap desk, while the typical nightside table contents stay put on the inside shelf. The rounded openings in the detachable tabletop allows for access to the stationary table while in bed. The round openings on the bottom allow the table to be carried and cords to travel through. The pegboard like front is designed to create any image or woven design imaginable.  The construction is entirely wood and glue. The display door hinges on small metal pegs within a routed channel; designed to display a record even while opening.
