1/4" scale model of a light wood construction cabin. In this class I learned the basics of building methods. One of the projects included making a 1/4" scale light wood construction cabin with specifications such as, appropriate stud spacing, a bay window, and an attached porch.
My main design motivation was simplicity and clear circulation through the cabin, while also maximizing views and usable space. I achieved this through a symmetrical design that flows from a 70 square foot, pergola-covered deck to the main cabin space (154 square feet), accented with windows on each wall. A clear aisle flows from the front door to the bay window on the back wall, so that bunk beds can be accommodated on both sides. Completed as a whole, my cabin is both cost efficient and environmentally friendly by taking advantage of existing wall studs for the door and windows, a simple roof design, and by using strategic planning for the overall form.
